Beatrice Weidner
Beatrice Weidner is a Sydney, Gadigal Land – based artist working with drawing and print media, focusing on mono-printing techniques, watercolour and ink compositions.
As an avid bushwalker and traveller, Weidner’s artwork is inspired by nature in all its manifestations. Her principal practice consists of documenting the events of her life in a small sketchbook, which she facilitates for the development of extended artwork. The final images reflect present issues and environmental concerns based on scientific findings. The work is driven by material and theoretical exploration and experimentation, in which the journey is equally important to the outcome.
The current work features ink drawings created while pursuing a master’s degree at the National Art School. The concept of Primordial Soup arose from the continuing visual investigation into various ecosystems and their relationships and interdependencies. Further, As Above, So Below, a phrase inherent in the hermetic text of the Emerald Tablet (Egypt circa 3rd century BC), constitutes another work substratum relevant to exploring micro- and macro-cosmos.
